Seek some advice

The Academics link on the University's homepage offers links to departmental and school web sites as well as many other helpful resources to assist you with finding a major that is the right fit for you!  However, there are many resources available to help you find your way to a major, some of them are listed below:

  • Academic advisors within University College Academic Advisement serve all incoming freshmen, current students with 24 or fewer semester hours, and those students who have not declared a major.  Your academic advisor will arrange numerous meetings with you in order to determine your class schedule, interpret university policies, understand major and minor requirements, make short- and long-range academic plans, and locate academic resources.
  • Student Counseling Services offers great tools to help you think through career choices, including step-by-step computer programs, personal career counseling, and special events.
  • Take a Career Choice class. What a great idea! Earn some credit while you are exploring your options! The class teaches students how to assess their interests, abilities, and values; how to gather information about occupations; and how to make career decisions.
Please be aware that Illinois State University requires all students to be enrolled in a major by the time they earn 75 hours. Find out more about the 75 hour policy.
