Campus life, it's more than the classroom and studying.

Illinois State University is a residential university with more than 20,000 students. The campus is in the twin-city community of Bloomington-Normal near the geographic center of the state and has a population of about 125,000. If you join our community we know you'll want to experience everything that campus life has to offer. So what is campus life really like? Here's an idea...

Sleep

Yes, sleep is good, but our 13 residence halls offer a lot more than a place to sleep! Residence hall living is a big part of the college experience, which is why students are required to live in a residence hall until they earn junior class standing. Time and time again alumni say that they met some of their best friends in the residence halls.

Visit University Housing to learn more about special lifestyle floors, affordable family-oriented apartment living, network access, computer and fitness labs, and hundreds of social and educational programs.

Play

You can't spend all of your time studying! College is about working and playing hard. Athletic events, the University golf course, plays, concerts, comedians, art exhibits, Recreation sports, shopping, movies, outdoor adventure trips. Finding something to do in your free time has never been so easy!

Eat

Don't let all the dorm food rumors scare you, times have changed -- for the better. Stop by Chatters located in the Walker residence hall, between classes to get your caffeine fix or grab a sandwich with friends. It's your coffee house right here on campus. Like variety? The food court in Watterson, a residence hall, is the place for you. Learn about all the options Campus Dining Services has to offer.

The Bloomington-Normal community also has more than 200 restaurants for you to enjoy from local favorites to national chains.

Participate

Eventually you'll have to face that you can't possibly be involved with everything! For example, there are more than 300 registered student organizations. Involvement in the University community enhances the quality of campus life, develops leadership skills, and so much more.

There is a huge variety -- Student Government Association, Black Student Union, Association of Residence Halls, fraternities, sororities, honors societies, recreation, academic (major) student organizations, and many more. And, if you don't see it, just start your own organization!

Let the Dean of Student's Office be your guide to registered student organizations and campus activities.

Explore the twin-cities

There will be so much activity on campus you might not ever want to leave, but the Bloomington-Normal community offers a wide variety of diversions from your everyday routine -- shopping centers, art festivals, crosstown biking trails, Shakespeare in the park, etc.

Be healthy

To be successful at college you need to be healthy! Illinois State offers a variety of health-related services and opportunities. Services include the Student Health Services' medical clinic that provides students with quality, convenient, low-cost primary health care; student insurance; a pharmacy; and health promotions. In addition, there is recreation services, which includes a student rec building, 18-hole golf course, outdoor adventure center, and several recsports.
