What students are saying...

"MSAC (Minority Student Academic Center) is a very great place to get your thoughts together and use your study time wisely. All of the staff are nice and always willing to help with any questions or concerns or if you just need someone to talk to they are there for you."

"I really liked my Connections experience because I met and saw the same people that were in two other classes as well. This worked nicely for group projects."

Jane Poynter
Accounting major, Springfield, IL

"My academic advisor, especially my freshman year, was very helpful in deciding how many hours to take each semester and when to fit in General Education courses and when to start on my major courses. She was very knowledgeable about the departments I was entering into as well. She was always available, either by Email or by appointment to see her face-to-face."

Kenny Metroff

Academic Advisement

Ok, we know the catalog is not much fun to read. But, you're not alone in the quest to get it all straight! Your advisor will help you develop short and long-range academic plans.

Who will be your advisor? Beginning freshman (with 24 or fewer semester hours) and all General, Pre-Nursing, and unclassified students are advised in the University College Academic Advisement Center. Freshman Honors students are advised by Honors advisors. Once you have declared a major and have earned 24 or more semester hours, you are advised in your major department/school.

New freshmen will meet with an advisor during Preview, the mandatory freshman summer orientation and registration program.

New transfers will meet with an advisor while participating in the Transfer Registration Program.
