Would you know an Illinois State freshman if you saw one?

Admitted freshmen for the 2007-2008 academic year:

  • 85 percent ranked in the top half of their high school graduating class
  • 40 percent ranked in the top quarter
  • 12 percent ranked in the top 10 percent of their class
  • The middle 50 percent of admitted students earned ACT composite scores of 22 to 26 and the average GPA was 3.38.
  • Ninety-two percent of undergraduates are 17-24 years old. The campus is 58 percent women and 42 percent men. There are more than 20,000 students enrolled at Illinois State and the student teacher ratio is 19:1, ninety percent of classes are taught by faculty members.

Interesting findings

  • Sixty percent of incoming freshmen plan on earning master's degrees; an additional 13 percent plan on earning doctoral degrees.
  • Seventy percent of incoming freshmen report using the Internet for research or homework during high school.
  • Seventy-eight percent of entering freshmen say that "being very well off financially" is an important life goal.
