Doug Collins '73

Doug Collins

Doug Collins, a member of the Class of 1973, was a star player on the men's basketball team while attending Illinois State University. Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers out of Illinois State with the first overall selection in the 1973 NBA draft, Collins went on to star in the NBA for eight seasons with the Sixers, averaging 17.9 points per game and was selected to play in four all-star games. While at Illinois State, Collins starred on the 1972 U.S. Olympic Basketball team, earning a silver medal at the Munich games. Collins has coached the NBA's Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, and Washington Wizards. He also has been a broadcaster with NBC and Turner Broadcasting.
