A view down School Street.

Just off School Street is the Jesse Fell Gateway, which marks the eastern entrance to the Quad. Dedicated in 1916, the concept was instituted by The Woman’s League of Normal as a gateway that connects the University with the town.

They stipulated that the gateway should be plain and noble in design—a tribute to a founder of the University and friend of Abraham Lincoln.

Also along School Street are Hovey Hall, the main administration building, Julian Hall, and the Alamo II Bookstore. Where School Street ends, the "In Exchange" plaza featuring a local artist's sculpture begins. Off this plaza are various academic buildings: Old Union, Stevenson, Williams Hall and the Center for the Performing Arts.
