Program Requirements

Transfer admission into some majors requires specific course prerequisites. The Transfer Admission Guide provides important information for students planning to transfer into a major.

Some majors are highly competitive and we cannot accept all qualified applicants. You can refer to the Closed Major list to find out if the is still space in your intended program.

Admissions Requirements

Illinois State's commitment to individual attention reaches beyond the classroom. During the admissions process, your application will be carefully reviewed by a university professional.

Of those transfer students admitted for the 2009-2010 academic year, the average grade point average was a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale.

In making admission decisions, Illinois State takes the following into consideration:

  • Official college transcript from each college or university attended (cumulative college grade point average),
  • Prerequisite college course work, for some academic programs, and
  • Good academic standing at the last college attended.
  • Optional: an academic personal statement explaining circumstances that affected collegiate academic performance.

If you have completed fewer than 24 semester hours at the time of application, we also consider:

  • High school transcript (cumulative grade point average, grade trends, and rigor of courses completed)
  • Official ACT or SAT scores sent from the testing agency
    • ACT code: 1042
    • SAT code: 131
  • GED scores (if non-high school graduate)
    • Minimum score of 410 on each of the five tests
    • Average battery score of 450

Please note: Remedial coursework will not be taken into consideration when calculating the admission GPA or the number of semester hours earned at the time of application. In addition, an associate's degree does not guarantee admission.
