Community College Transfer Scholarship

The Community College Transfer Scholarship competition is an opportunity for community college graduates to compete for monetary awards to be applied to the overall cost of their education at Illinois State University. The awards are valued at $3,000 each ($750 per semester for two years). The awards are based on academic merit rather than on financial need.

Who may apply?

Application for this scholarship is by invitation only. This program is highly competitive and selective. Candidates must be first-time students at Illinois State University, meet all admissions criteria, have a cumulative transfer grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale as calculated by the Office of Admissions at the time of application, and complete an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree prior to enrolling at the University.

More than 100 community college students compete for the awards and are among the most academically talented students from throughout the state and the nation. Scholarship winners often are members of Phi Theta Kappa, the academic honor society of community colleges.

Invitations are mailed during the month of March to qualified candidates who have been admitted to the University; therefore, it is imperative that students apply for admission to Illinois State early in the fall semester to ensure their admission in time for consideration for this scholarship.
Candidates must submit:

  • A scholarship application
  • A current transcript, including fall semester grades
  • A 500-word response to an essay question

Competitors also are invited to participate in the University's Honors Program. Within that program, students form a unique learning community whose members share similar abilities, aspirations, and curricular expectations. Honor students also have the option of living in the Honors House.
